The Rifle Itself Has No Moral Stature: No Need for More Gun Control Laws Jeff Cooper, the creator of the â€Å"modern technique† of handgun shooting, an expert on the use and history of small arms, once said, â€Å"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles.† People will always have possession of arms, whether they use it for harm or to protect. There is no need to add more gun control laws. Instead, rules should be strongly enforced, specific guns should be banned in certain areas, and lawmakers need to consider people’s reactions. If the laws were tighter, then it will be more difficult to buy a gun, which will help decrease shootings. The laws that we have now are pretty good, but there are too many loopholes. Adding extra rules will not solve this problem, it is going to be more guidelines to break. Each state has their own laws. But to make sure everyone follows the same procedure, the lawmakers should make these type of laws apply to the nation. One of the rules that should be strongly enforced is background checks, â€Å"to ensure convicted felons, individuals who are not of sound mind, and individuals regarded as incapable due to a mental condition will be denied gun ownership† (Alters).
